Psalm 56

BE MERCIFUL TO ME, O GOD, FOR MAN WOULD SWALLOW ME UP; FIGHTING ALL DAY HE OPPRESSES ME. MY ENEMIES WOULD HOUND ME ALL DAY. FOR THERE ARE MANY WHO FIGHT AGAINST ME, O MOST HIGH. WHENEVER I AM AFRAID, I WILL TRUST IN YOU. IN GOD I WILL PRAISE HIS WORD, IN GOD I HAVE PUT MY TRUST; I WILL NOT FEAR. WHAT CAN MAN DO TO ME? - PSALM 56

We are living in difficult days here in America. The economy is at an all-time low, families are losing their homes, marriages are torn apart, children are neglected, and God seems to be so distant from us.

At times, we feel like the psalmist, who declares that mankind is swallowing him up. How do we stand against those who seem to hold all the power? How do we remain steadfast when so much seems to hinder our path? We stumble in the darkness and cry out until dawn, yet does anyone hear our plea?

Take heart! God does hear our cries, even in the darkest of night. We do not serve a God who is far away, but One who has come close. He loves us so much that He put on flesh and became the Man-God, Jesus Christ.

Cry out to the One who feels your sorrow and grief! Cry out to the One who desires to have an authentic relationship with you. He is not some god who can never be pleased. But instead, He is the God of love and compassion. He longs to show Himself to you and wrap you in mercy and grace.

Merry Christmas!
