Thanksgiving

Jesus replied, "you do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand".

In John's Gospel, he records the last Passover meal Jesus spent with His disciples.  Before dinner, Jesus took the towel and a water and began to wash His disciples' feet.  It was a custom in those days for the servants to wash the masters' feet before dinner.  But Jesus took the form of a servant and began to carry out this task.

Peter was a little disturbed by the act.  He wanted Jesus to act like his Rabbi.  Rabbis were supposed to have their feet washed, NOT wash others feet.  Jesus was doing something out of the ordinary.

Well, some things never change.  Jesus continues to do things out of the ordinary.  When we think we have Him figured out, He does something unexpected.  He is quite predictably unpredictable!

Many times I have asked Jesus "what are you doing"?  It certainly does not seem like the best solution to the problem.  But time and time again He proves Himself.  His ways are always better.  His ways always prove true.  And even though I do not realize what He is doing, He eventually helps me to understand.

Lord, thank you for being predictably unpredictable.  Thank you for being willing to serve and give your life for us.  Amen.
