O LORD, SAVE US!

"I will give you thanks, for you answered me; you have become my salvation.  The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone; the LORD has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes.  This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.  O LORD, save us; O LORD, grant us success.  Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD."  Psalm 118:21-26

The Jews would sing this psalm on the way up to Jerusalem each year.  At the time of the annual sacrifice; the Day of Atonement, they would make their way to the Holy City to offer their sacrifices to God.

As they sang, they worshipped the LORD, the One who brought them out of Egypt; out of slavery.  And they asked Him to look upon their sacrifices and forgive their sin.

But this was also a prophetic word.  It was prophecying of the One who would come from God and take away the sin of the world once and for all.

We are getting ready to enter the season of Lent.  It is 40 days that the Church sets aside to prepare ourselves for our annual feast.  But this time we will not bring any sacrifices to God.  Instead, we celebrate that Jesus Christ became the sacrifice and it was indeed acceptable in His sight!

Thank Lord for saving us!  Thank you for granting us success!  Thank you for loving us enough to hear our prayers!

O Lord, as we entered the season of Lent, help us to focus on Your grace and mercy.  Help us to see You working out Your plan all around us.  Amen.
